This is a team that has come a long way in its first season together. We lost three players at the start of the season, but that spurred the boys on to become a better team. Hard work and teamwork, also not forgetting skill is what this squad is all about. They work hard for eachother, and never give up. Tony and I can not tell you how proud we are to coach these boys, their performances has improved throughout the season, I dont mean the results I'm talking about the way they pass and move round the pitch as a team. I could go on for pages about the team but I will end with...
WELL DONE BOYS FOR A GREAT
SEASON !!!!
A SPECIAL THANKS
We would like to thank Jim Jackson and all the boys from Welling Wanderers for a fantastic game on sunday. I think this was the best atmosphere our team has played in, the parents, players, coaches and officials were all supportive of the boys and their football. Having been at a lot of youth football at both mini soccer and eleven a-side it is not often that this is the case. The attitude of both teams all afternoon was brilliant, sporting throughout with no bad tackles just players that want to learn. We also had two young referees who controlled the game really well as did the two linesmen. I hope we can arrange another game but if not I would like to wish Welling Wanderers all the best for next season.
Fantastic start to 11a side
Well done to all the boys on sunday, what a great 1st performance in an 11 a side game. It is hard work adjusting from a mini soccer pitch to a full size pitch, but you coped really well. We played against Welling Wanderers who have won our division without losing a game and beat us heavily twice this season. The game started even and you could tell both teams were finding it strange on the bigger pitch. St More were awarded a free kick 30 yards out Temitayo managed to pick out Jake who as ever just cooly put it beyond the keeper 1-0. Just before half time Welling had a shot saved by Stevie but he just couldnt hold it and Welling pounced 1-1. The first half was as expected both teams were a little unsure. In my opinion the second half was a really good game both teams started to use the space and were really passing well. Welling took the lead from a well taken corner 1-2. This seemed to make us stronger we started to takeover the passing was really smooth and fast. We were awarded another free kick and this time Temitayo manged to pic out Ben who passed it into the bottom right corner 2-2. Two assists from Temitayo not bad for a centre back. The game was now open both teams were really enjoying the game and just before the end Welling managed to get a third goal, we still had chances but just couldnt find a way past Wellings keeper who made some fantastic stops. From Stevie in goal to Jake up front all the boys played well, but I think the boys that had the hardest jobs were the full backs, they have to play against some of the faster and more skillfull players on the wings but Jordan and Kye handled it really well and that is why Kye was our man of the match. In the first half I was on his side of the pitch helping him and he never let his head go down he listened and gave his all, even coming forward and looking up for a pass, well done Kye. So it was 3-2 to Welling, but I feel we have a great group of boys and with a few additions we will be really strong, remember boys ask your friends we only have the bare eleven. WELL DONE! we are very proud of you all!!!
WELL DONE JORDAN GIBBINS
As a coach you always want to see the boys you are working with progressing. Hard work can take you a long way in any sport. One player who really works hard is our very own Jordan Gibbins, he is always at training at least 15 minutes before it starts, has attended the David Beckham academy and also goes to Charlton challenge. This has been rewarded in the last month, he has become a stronger member of our squad and has also got picked for his school team. This goes to show what you can achieve if you have the desire and hunger to do it. All he needs to do now is score a goaol and he has the set. From everyone at the club, well done Jordan!
NOT FORGETTING OUR OTHER HEROES
I know that when the squad reads about Jordan you will all be telling me what you do outside of football, as you should because I want to know, Here is what a few of you have told me.
Daniel Rainsbury- David Beckham Academy
Grant Proctor- Charlton Challenge, Christ Church School team (cup runners up)
Connor Robson- Judo, St Michaels Football Team
Lewis Stearn-Swimming
